Panic Attack Symptoms — Get To Understand Them Really Well

Having panic attack for quite some time makes you familiar with the symptoms of a panic attack. From hyperventilating to fainting, and everything else in between; the whole enchilada if you want to put it that way. But have you ever stopped and thought of what goes on within your body when you feel those symptoms? If you want to know, then I will clarify each symptoms of panic attack and try to make it thorough as much as possible.

Hyperventilation or the feeling of being drowned will be the first sign that we will talk about. I, personally, have never drowned yet, but have already experienced hyperventilation. It feels something similar when you stop to catch a breath after running for an hour. You breathe in a very fast fashion and your chest generally hurts.

So primarily, you get to have hyperventilation because your body feels that you lack oxygen and your chest is also tightening. But once you breathe faster, less oxygen is in fact taken in by your body because the breathing becomes shallow.

So, due to the uneven breathing, it results to another sign which I will talk about – fainting. It does not really signify that when you have a panic attack you also faint, but some generally faints. So, this event commonly happens because we loose too many carbon dioxide and our brain also lacks oxygen. The danger in fainting is when you hit your head into something hard when you faint.

Another common sign is tachycardia or palpitations. The increase in the heart rate is due to the sympathetic nervous response of the body. The stress that you endure sometimes becomes too much that your body would feel that it is being attacked, so the sympathetic nervous response is then triggered. The response will set you to run or oppose the attacker.

How will your body be prepared by it? It is fairly simple, it gives concentration on organs that you will require for a “battle” such as your heart, lungs and brain. The organs can be prepared by having a large amount of oxygen from the blood. And what’s the better answer but by making your heart work more and pump more rapidly, right?

The next symptom I will discuss is also due to the sympathetic nervous response; and that is diaphoresis or excessive sweating. The excessive sweating is essentially because of the increased metabolism when you are having attacks.

In this article, some panic attack symptoms have not been explained like upset stomach, bowel movement changes and trembling. Broadly speaking, they are all because of your sympathetic nervous response. The essential thing that you should be aware of though is that the symptoms will not kill you.
